How to Choose an End-of-Life Doula in Marin County

Choosing an end-of-life doula is a tender and important step. This is someone who will sit with you at the threshold, who will witness love, loss, and grief, who will walk beside you when the ground feels unsteady.
In Marin County, there are a handful of doulas and many ways of working. Each doula brings their own background, style, and gifts. There is no one-size-fits-all. What matters most is finding the right fit for you and your family.
Questions to Ask When Choosing a Doula
What kind of support do you offer? Some doulas focus on advanced care planning or paperwork. Others on bedside presence, legacy projects, or grief support. Ask what is within their scope — and what is not.
Do you work with the dying, the family, or both? Some doulas primarily support caregivers, while others sit most closely with the dying person. Clarify where their focus lies.
Do you offer support for MAiD (Medical Aid in Dying)? Not all doulas are comfortable in this space. If this is part of your or your loved one’s path, ask whether the doula can help with planning, logistics, and emotional presence around MAiD.
Are you available in person, virtually, or both? If proximity matters, look for a local doula in Marin. If not, some doulas (myself included) travel or offer virtual guidance.
How do you work with hospice and medical teams? A doula is not a medical professional, but often works alongside hospice, nurses, or social workers. Ask how they collaborate.
What is your training and experience? There is no one path to becoming a doula — some train through national organizations, others through lived experience. Ask what has prepared them to do this work.
My Approach
As the founder of Wild & Precious End-of-Life Services, my work is rooted in both presence and practical support.
I support the dying with bedside presence, ritual, and legacy work.
I support families with guidance, respite, and resources.
I design vigils and create sacred spaces.
I accompany families in grief and after-death care.
I support clients choosing Medical Aid in Dying (MAiD) with planning, preparation, and compassionate presence.
I travel beyond Marin when needed, and I also connect families to trusted local doulas if I cannot be present.
Above all, I bring my experience of being honored to spend time at the threshold. I know the terrain, and I walk it with steadiness, compassion, and care.
Finding the Right Fit
The right doula is someone you feel at ease with. Someone you can trust to sit in silence, to steady you in grief, to honor what is most sacred to you.
Whether you find your doula here in Marin, through a local referral, or through my help in connecting you elsewhere — know that you do not have to walk this path alone.
✨ If you are seeking support in Marin County or beyond, I would be honored to meet with you, hear your story, and walk with you at the threshold.
